  1. Not all mammal species use placentas to nourish developing embryos. Research the various groups of “non-placental” mammals. How do they reproduce and protect their offspring? Where do these non-placental mammals live today?
     
  2. All mammal species lactate or produce milk, including species that live exclusively in the ocean such as cetaceans. What are some challenges to lactation in water environments? Investigate how cetaceans lactate and feed newborn offspring.
