Further Investigations: What is an Invertebrate?

  1. Carefully collect a live invertebrate specimen from the wild. If you cannot catch one, try to take a photograph. Bring the specimen or photograph back to class and use library and Internet tools to identify it. Present your findings to your class.

  2. Insects are by far the most diverse group within the animal kingdom. Use library and Internet resources to investigate the importance of this invertebrate group. How do they positively and negatively affect humans? What roles do they play in natural ecosystems? How do insects interact with the aquatic environment?
