What to Expect at a CASE Tutoring Session

1 on 1 Pronunciation Tutoring Lesson

  • One-on-one practice sessions
  • Experienced speaking tutors
  • Lessons made to your speaking ability

The first lesson will take about 30 minutes, which includes an introduction, speaking diagnostic, and consultation. During the first lesson, your tutor will introduce themselves and briefly talk about CASE. Then, you will complete a 10-minute speaking diagnostic in order to identify which areas of pronunciation we will focus on during your lessons. In the remaining time, you can ask any questions related to CASE and concerns about academic oral skills.

After the first lesson, you and your tutor will start working on the most crucial area of pronunciation based on the results of your diagnostic. This could be areas such as word stress, sentence stress, rhythm, consonants, vowels, etc. Usually, you will work on one or two aspects of pronunciation in each 45-minute session. For instance, the first 20 minutes will be dedicated to learning about the characteristics of English rhythm and reading sentences aloud with guidance. The next 20 minutes will be used for listening and pronouncing /l/ and /r/ sounds. The remaining time is for a casual conversion to practice free speech. There is no homework, but if you wish to practice at home, your tutor will share related materials.

You can make another appointment at your convenience. You can choose the same tutor or a different tutor as you wish. The content you work on each lesson will be recorded in CASE, so you do not have to worry about keeping track of what you did in each lesson. Please only sign up for a maximum of two sessions per week, with each session on a different day.
