Brentley Sandlin

Brentley Sandlin is a Ph.D. student from Memphis in the department and part of the Museum Studies Graduate Certificate Program. She has a B.A. with Honors from Stanford University in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity, with a concentration in Politics, Policy and Equity, as well as a minor in Film and Media Studies. As a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, her research focuses primarily on visual representations of resistance movements led by Indigenous Nations impacted by United States colonialism, imperialism, and occupation. Her undergraduate thesis focused on Indigenous identity formation through self-representation of photography during the American Indian Movement and onwards. Post graduation, she hopes to work in the museum sector advocating for Indigenous representation and equity.
