Homelessness is almost always figured as a chronic social problem that politicians and social service providers try and fail to solve. Too often left out of the conversation are unsheltered activists who are taking charge of their own lives and solving problems on their own terms. This program privileges their voices. Spotlighting initiatives from Waianae to Waimanalo, the program will explore how a new generation of grassroots leaders are finding home and building community.
Guests include: Twinkle Borges, Puʻuhonua O Waianae; Jessy Freddy Francis, We Are Oceania; Tina Grandinetti, Hawai‘i State Legislature (staff); Ronette Kawakami, William S. Richardson School of Law; James Koshiba, Hui Aloha; Blanche Macmillan, Hui Mahiaʻi Aina; and Lindsay Pacheco, Ka Po‘e O Kaka‘ako. Moderated by Maya Soetoro.
Event Sponsors: Ceeds of Peace, College of Social Sciences, Hawai‘i Community Foundation, Kamehameha Schools, Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, and the William S. Richardson School of Law.
