AMERICAN QUARTERLY

EDITORIAL HOME OF AMERICAN QUARTERLY, 2014-24

The Department of American Studies at the University of Hawai’i proudly housed the editorial office of American Quarterly, the official publication of the American Studies Association, for ten-year period beginning July 2014. Through a rigorous peer review and editorial process, American Quarterly publishes the cutting-edge interdisciplinary research on American history, society, and culture.

Under the leadership of Professor Mari Yoshihara, the editorial team is comprised of faculty in American Studies and other departments at UHM as well as scholars based in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, and continental United States. This composition of the editorial team reflects the journal’s commitment to advancing the transnational, comparative approaches to American Studies, especially with attention to Indigenous histories and the United States’ relationship to the Asia-Pacific region.

Housing American Quarterly in the American Studies Department also brings invaluable opportunities for our graduate students. The staff positions of the journal’s Managing Editor and two Editorial Assistants are held by advanced graduate students in American Studies. Working in these positions provide in-depth understanding of, and professional experience in, all aspects of academic publishing. The editorial team will also be offering workshops for graduate students on academic writing and publishing.
