13 Feb A Conversation with Theo Gonzalves, February 26 @ 5:30 p.m., Moore Hall 323
Please join us for an informal talk with Dr. Theodore Gonzalves, curator at the Smithsonianʻs National Museum of American History (NMAH). Theo left a tenured position at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County to join the Smithsonian Institution. What opportunities lured him to NMAH? How will he bring attention to minority communities through the Smithsonianʻs programs, partnerships, and resources? Why was it important to accession hundreds of documents from San Jose Taiko? What does he hope to accomplish at NMAH and what challenges does he face?
Theo is president of the Association of Asian American Studies, the author of several books, and a musician. He once taught in American Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi. Help us welcome back this multi-talented scholar/curator/musician.
