Here are some university and community organizations that carry out activities relating to One Health and would qualify for the One Health capstone practicum experience:
- FilCom CARES
- A project of the Filipino Community Center that strives to address the significant impact of COVID-19 by providing on-going outreach, education, resources, and vaccination and testing opportunities to Filipino communities in Hawai‘i
- Papa Ola Lokahi
- An organization dedicated to improving the health status and wellbeing of Native Hawaiians and others by advocating for, initiating and maintaining culturally appropriate strategic actions aimed at improving the physical, mental and spiritual health of Native Hawaiians and their ‘ohana (families) and empowering them to determine their own destinies.
- Pacific Health Analytics Collaborative
- A project working to improve lives through applied analytics and trusted partnership that drives better policy and practices in Hawai‘i and the Pacific
- Ho‘oulu ‘Aina
- An interwoven program consisting of a 100-acre nature preserve nestled in the back of Kalihi valley on the island of Oʻahu, cared for by Kōkua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services, a nonprofit community health center and Federally Qualified Health Center. This program seeks to provide people of the ahupuaʻa and beyond the freedom to make connections and build meaningful relationships with the ʻāina, each other and ourselves. Here, the community comes together around forest, food, knowledge, spirituality, and healthy activity.
- Honolulu Zoo
- The mission of the Honolulu Zoo is to inspire stewardship of our living world by providing conservation, education, and meaningful experiences to our community. The Zoo emphasizes Pacific Tropical ecosystems and our values of malama (caring) and ho`okipa (hospitality).
- Loko I’a Pāʻaiau Fishpond
- Loko I’a Pāʻaiau is located in the Kalauao ahupua‘a in the ‘Ewa moku on the mokupuni of O‘ahu and is a beautiful reminder of the peace, healing, and lōkahi Hawai‘i once had. The sacred site is currently stewarded and restored with the loving hands of many, as a community-based partnership between the U.S.Navy, the Ali‘i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club, the ‘Aiea Community Association, the descendants and residents of Pā`aiau, ‘Aiea and Kalauao, and the larger community.
- Hawai‘i Homeless Outreach and Medical Education (HOME) Project
- The mission of the Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project is to improve quality and access to health care for Hawaii’s homeless, while increasing student and physician awareness and understanding of the homeless and their healthcare needs.
