Hawaiian Mo‘olelo on Stage
Adpated for the stage and directed by UHM Theatre Professor Tammy Haili‘ōpua Baker
The inaugural production in the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s new Hawaiian Theatre program. This stage adaptation of the traditional Hawaiian mo‘olelo (story) of Lā‘ieikawai will feature hula, oli (chant), mele (song) and will be performed entirely in Hawaiian. Co-sponsored by the UHM Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge and the Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language.
Aloha mai e nā hoa makamaka o ka ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i. Eia nō ke ho‘olaha aku nei ka hale hana keaka ‘o Kennedy i kēia hana keaka Hawai‘i mua loa o nei kahua a me ka ho‘omōhala ‘ana a‘e o ka polokolamu hana keaka Hawai‘i o ke ke‘ena Theatre & Dance. He mo‘olelo hana keaka no Lā‘ieikawai, ka hiwahiwa o Paliuli, ka wahine o ka li‘ulā. E like nō me ka hana a Ka Hālau Hanakeaka, e lawelawe ‘ia ana ka hana keaka ‘o Lā‘ieikawai ma ka ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i. E naue pū mai a e luana like pū mai i ke ka‘ao ‘ana o kēia mo‘olelo kaulana o ka wā kahiko.
