Public Transportation on the Big Island – We discuss why public transportation is important to the local economy and to the quality of life and social justice on the Big Island. We describe the County of Hawai’i’s public transportation vision and how that vision is being implemented through a variety of new programs. John Andoh, the new Mass Transit Administrator & General Manager County of Hawai’i Mass Transit Agency, takes us through the new programs he is implementing, including new routes and services, a fleet of new zero emission vehicles, how these improvements are being paid for, workforce development, the challenges he faces and how he is overcoming them.
