Professor Yue is the director of the Center for Chinese Studies at University of Hawaii at Manoa and an Associate Professor of Chinese in East Asian Languages & Literatures. She assumes the directorship of the Center in Fall, 2021. Professor Yue’s research areas include 20th Century Chinese literature, film and culture from PRC, Taiwan, and Hong Kong; Chinese literature from Southeast Asia; Cultural Constructions of “Chineseness”; Transnational Chinese Popular Culture; Pan-Asianism and Diasporic Consciousness in Chinese travel and exile literature; Multiculturalism in Europe; Theories of ideology and representation; Post-colonialism in East and Southeast Asia; Feminist criticism; Psychoanalysis; Media studies and visual culture; and Inter-Asia Cultural Studies.
Dr. Zhang joined the Center for Chinese Studies at University of Hawaii at Manoa as Associate Director in January, 2024. With a remarkably rich record of administrative experience and educational leadership skills, Dr. Zhang is the founding director (and current board member) of the Children’s Museum Research Center (CMRC) at Beijing Normal University, where she worked as the Lead Designer for major research projects. In addition, she also piloted two additional children’s museums and successfully spearheaded the expansion of children’s museums throughout China. She also serves as the Ambassador in China for the International Association for Children in Museums.
Adriana Choi is the Academic Support Specialist for the Center for Chinese Studies that has just joined in October 2024. They help the Center with event organization, logistical operations, and fiscal administrative support to whatever the Center’s needs are.
Jesse Shan is a multi-disciplinary designer with extensive experience in environmental design, visual identity, and user experience design. He manages the social media and website for the Center for Chinese Studies and assists in other administration tasks.
