Casual Business Attire for Men:
(Business Casual is most acceptable in Hawai‘i)

  • Button down shirt (e.g. Aloha shirt)
  • Khaki pants
  • Covered shoes with socks (no athletic/sports shoes; no sandals)

Formal Business Attire for Men:

  • Long sleeved; collared; button down shirt; necktie; coat (optional)
  • Slacks
  • Covered shoes with socks (no athletic/sports shoes; no sandals)

Business Attire for Women:

  • Collared jacket (optional)
  • Skirt (at least knee length) or slacks
  • Blouse – no spaghetti straps or sleeveless
  • Use dark colors; navy, black, gray
  • Covered shoes; low heels (no athletic/sports shoes; no sandals)
  • Make-up – natural colors (e.g. beige, brown, light pink); fingernail polish should be natural or subtle colors (e.g. clear, beige, light pinks)

Pre-interview reminders:

  • Keep jewelry conservative; limit to one ring per hand and use small earrings
  • Remove all facial and visible body piercing
  • Cover visible tattoos
  • Turn OFF cellular phones and digital pagers

Interview Preparation Checklist

  1. Find directions/parking to the interview site at least one day prior to the interview.
  2. Research general information about the organization/employer through contacts (friends, counselors, and/or instructors), websites, and newspapers/publications.
