Congratulations Jordan Antonio!
Congratulations to Jordan Miller Antonio who has successfully defended his MA thesis in Asian Studies!
Jordan Miller Antonio joined the Master of Arts in the Asian Studies program in 2017 and his studies have focused on Southeast Asia, but specifically Islam in Indonesia. The thesis, entitled “From Wali Songo to Televangelists: Changes in Visuality and Orality in Javanese Islam” addresses how the use of technology and social media in preaching reflects the historical spread of Islam on Java. He is currently in his first semester of his PhD in Education at UH Mānoa where he plans to research refugee education in Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Committee Chair, Barbara Watson Andaya, and members Tamara Albertini and David Falgout, along with the entire Department of Asian Studies all want to express our warmest congratulations to Jordan for this major accomplishment.
