Call for Papers: 36th Annual Asian Studies Conference – Writing Excellence Awards Now Open!

There will be six categories for Writing Excellence Awards under the following area centers at UHM. Students may only submit to ONE category. For students doing inter-Asia papers, please choose the region that best fits your research.

Chinese Studies
Korean Studies
Japanese Studies
Okinawan Studies
Philippine Studies
South Asian Studies
Southeast Asian Studies

In order to be eligible for the Writing Excellence Award, submissions MUST consist of original research presented at the conference and be no longer than 4,000 words, excluding notes and bibliography. They cannot be chapters from your dissertation. Papers that do not meet these criteria will not be evaluated.

All papers must be received by March 15, 2025 (11:59pm HST).

In addition to awards for distinguished papers, small travel grants to the conference site may be available. Please check the logistics page for more details over the coming months.
