Subjects We Tutor

MATH & SCIENCE   
Our Math and Science tutors primarily consist of University of Hawaii students majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and provide tutoring support in:
  • Mathematics (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus)
  • Biology (BIOL 171, 275 and related labs)
  • Chemistry (CHEM 131, 161, 162, 272, 273 and related labs)
  • Physics (PHYS 151, 152, 170, 272 and related labs)
Some tutors provide tutoring for courses beyond the levels listed above. For example:
  • OLA engineering tutors can tutor Calculus IV, Physics III, and other Engineering courses (ECE 160, 211, 213).
  • OLA biochemistry tutors can tutor Organic Chemistry II, Cell and Molecular Biology, and more.
    WRITING   
    OLA Writing tutors, comprised of English students at the University of Hawaii, support primarily underclassmen (Freshmen and Sophomores) in writing functions such as: 

    • General Writing Mechanics: Grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and clarity.

    • Organization & Structure: Outlining, structuring, and flow.

    • Citations: MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.
    • Evidence: Finding and integrating sources.

    We help with a multitude of types of academic writing, such as research papers, rhetorical analyses, narrative essays, creative writing, personal statements, and more.

      Live 1-on-1 tutoring via STAR Balance

      Students can schedule online appointments for math, science, or writing to work one-on-one with a tutor.
