University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa faculty member Robin Arndt has been elected to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) board of directors. Arndt joined the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health in 2013, and is the school’s coordinator of field and continuing education. In his position, he connects students with community organizations to fulfill their practicum requirement, as well as designs and implements continuing education opportunities for practicing social workers.

NASW is the world’s largest professional organization of social workers. Through a national election of members, Arndt was selected to serve as secretary of the board and previously served as director from region XII, which represented social workers in Hawaiʻi, Alaska, Colorado, Guam, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

“It is an honor to serve on the NASW board of directors as secretary,” said Arndt. “I am excited to continue to advocate for the profession and the needs of social workers locally and globally.”

Arndt previously served as president of the NASW Hawaiʻi chapter. He was also appointed to the board of directors for the North American Network of Field Educators & Directors and to the Commission on Educational Policy with the Council on Social Work Education.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
