Mari Matsuda is a lawyer, activist, and law professor. She was the first tenured female Asian American law professor in the United States, and she is a pioneering scholar in critical race theory. Prior to her return to the William S. Richardson School of Law in 2008, she was a professor at the UCLA School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center, specializing in the fields of torts, constitutional law, legal history, feminist theory, critical race theory, and civil rights law. She has authored numerous articles, chapters, and books including Words That Wound: Critical Race Theory, Assaultive Speech, and the First Amendment. A Yale Law School librarian ranked three of her publications among the “top 10 most cited law review articles” for their year of publication.
