AVAILABILITY - BOOKS Each of the search results you get points to a reference in a book (chants and songs indexes) or in a sound recording (chants index only). LIBRARY Availability If you are in Hawaiʻi you will find copies of most of these books in many Hawaiʻi libraries, primarily UH System libraries or public libraries. A link to the UH System libraries' catalog record is provided in each book's listing (Chants Books, Songbooks), where available. Keep in mind that many of the books have multiple editions and printings, which in many cases are described in different records in library catalogs. So, manually checking the library catalog might be worth your while. The UH System libraries' catalog can be found here, and the public libraries' catalog can be found here. If you are not in Hawaiʻi you should check your local libraries to see if they have a copy. If they do not, they may be able to arrange an interlibrary loan (meaning borrow a copy of the book for you, from another library). BOOKSTORE Availability Many of these books are still in print and are available for purchase. In cases where the book is out of print, used copies are often available too. Check your local bookstore, or check an online bookstore. (If you find yourself getting confused by the different years and editions listed, use the ISBN if it's available; it's often the quickest way to identify the correct printing or edition.) Some online bookstores: - Native Books Hawaiʻi - University of Hawaiʻi Press - Bishop Museum Press/Shop Pacifica - Kamehameha Publishing (formerly Kamehameha Schools Press) - Amazon - Barnes and Noble - Bookfinder - Alibris - AddALL ONLINE Availability Some of these books are available online. Ulukau has done a terrific job of bringing current books on Hawaiʻi to the web. Google Books and Hathi Trust are well worth checking for books that are in the public domain. And, in some cases, your library might have a subscription to an online copy; check with your librarian. Some free online repositories: - Ulukau Main Page, English interface - Project Gutenberg - Google Books - Hathi Trust - Internet Archive (create an account to access books) |
