How did your students like the conductivity lab? Were they able to figure out parallel circuits?

Students liked the hands on activity even though I had to review circuits and safety rules. WIth guided instructions, they figured out parallel circuits but there was much trial and error. I don't normally teach this topic out of context so it was a challenge.

Hi Jolene,

I did this activity with my students, too and found that they needed a quick review of circuits as well. I also don't normally teach this content either. I agree, it's all about trial and error. I tried my best through these lessons not to help or guide the students so much. It was hard to stand back and watch them go through the procedures and make mistakes, but that's the way they learn the best, right? :)

Yes, I totally agree. There's a cutoff point where you run of time and there's more instruction rather than facilitation just to "get it all in." Students learn best and remember best from self/peer discovery and we can only allow so much time for that to happen before stepping in. Thanks for sharing. Nice to know I'm not alone.
