A new summer program for early-career China studies scholars hosted by the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburg. Applications for a week-long intensive academic career development program are invited from junior scholars who have received their PhD degrees after 2015. Eight scholars in a range of disciplines will be selected from a pool of international applicants. Scholars will engage with leading Chinese studies faculty to make creative use of new media to produce public knowledge about Chinese society, culture, and history and develop research-based expertise in teaching. Selected fellows will come to the University of Pittsburgh to join a team of international faculty for one week, May 26th – June 1st, 2019. Each scholar will give a formal, public presentation on her/his current research, submit a polished draft of work in progress for review and critique by a panel of faculty, and prepare a detailed draft syllabus for the development of a course on this year’s theme: Science, Technology, and Medicine. Scholars will participate in daily lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and related formal activities, as well as more informal networking and social events. In addition to round-trip travel, boarding, and lodging, the selected scholars will receive a $1000 stipend.

Applications, including a letter with details on teaching and research experience, a CV, a draft syllabus, and the names and contact information of two referees must be submitted no later than March 15 to Dr. Joseph S.
