Rising from a historically inferior status and overcoming many disadvantages along the way, we have witnessed the blooming of writing by Tibetan women in the past few decades. Their works echo an ongoing dialogue among Tibetan, Indian, Chinese, and Western cultures and provide a rich venue for understanding femininity and womanhood in a global, dynamic context. This webinar brings together three translator-scholars and a rising Tibetan woman writer, Nyima Tso, for a conversation on her writing and literary life.

Tashi Dekyid Monet (མོ་ངེ་བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་སྐྱིད།) is a PhD candidate in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia. She is working on a dissertation project titled “Knowing with the Indigenous Land: Reimagining Knowledge, Place, and Community in Tibetan Education.”

Jue Liang is Assistant Professor of Religion at Denison University. She co-organized the Tibetan Women Writing Symposium with Tashi Dekyid Monet at the University of Virginia.

Andrew S. Taylor is Assistant Professor in the Theology and Religious Studies department at The College of St. Scholastica. He is editing a special issue of Yeshe: A Journal of Tibetan Literature, Arts and Humanities that will be the first English anthology of contemporary Tibetan woman writers.
