The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is excited to announce its Spring 2025 Webinar Series, organized by CCS Faculty and Executive Committee Member Jonathan Pettit (Department of Religions & Ancient Civilizations, UHM).

Welcome to join us for a dynamic lineup of expert-led discussions and presentations exploring diverse aspects of Chinese history, culture, economics, and more.

Program Highlights

Our webinars, held on Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 PM (HST)(unless otherwise noted), are free and open to the public via Zoom. Mark your calendars for these engaging sessions:

  • Feb 5: Panel Discussion “Culinary History of China” 
  • Feb 26: Presentation and Panel Discussion “Water, Land, and Crops: Agricultures in China’s Core and Peripheries (17th – 20th centuries)
  • March 5: Seminar Presentation: “Chinese Capital Markets and Corporate Finance”
  • March 26: Roundtable: “Islam in China”
  • April 9: Scholarly Dialogue “Transparency and Projection in Medieval Buddhist Sculpture: a scholarly conversation.”
  • April 23: Inter-Regional Panel Discussions:Early 20th Century History of Manchuria”. 
  • May 7 9:00 am – 10:30 am (HST):  Presentations and Panel Discussions: “Entrepreneurship in China”.
