Virtual Chinese Cultural Day

Live-streaming from China, Taipei, Boston, and Honolulu

This season we welcome the long-awaited arrival of what we hope will prove to be a friendly, gentler Year of the Ox — after the devastation wreaked by the ferocious Rat of yesteryear. The pandemic that wiped out face-to-face interactions has forced us to adapt to new ways of communication online. Amid an era of growing U.S.-China tension, it is easy to look across the Pacific and see only competitors or enemies. However, those of us who embrace the interplay of American and Chinese cultures work optimistically and tirelessly to cultivate — and restore — a relationship underscored by mutual respect, understanding, and trust.

In years past, our Chinese Culture Days were celebratory, festive events bringing together about 400 students, teachers, and community members. This year, however, as no in-person gatherings are possible, we have transitioned our event to be fully virtual, with guest speakers live-streaming from across an ocean and two continents. We hope this event serves as a reminder that we do not have to be adversaries; rather, through civil discourse and open-mindedness, we hope to set aside our differences in our journey onward.

May the arrival of the Ox usher in a new beginning for you and your loved ones. Please join us and we hope you enjoy the presentations we have planned for you.
