The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa hosted a festive and meaningful Scholarship Awards & Chinese New Year Luncheon on Friday February 7 2025, bringing together over 60 invited guests, including faculty, students, and community members. The event, co-organized with the Activities Council of the Campus Center Board, served as both a celebration of academic excellence and a joyous welcome to the Chinese New Year.
The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including UH President Wendy Hensel, UH Provost Michael Bruno, Ivy Mu from the Office of Global Engagement, CCS Emeritus Professor Roger Ames and his wife Bonnie Ames, and longtime CCS donor Cyndy Ning. Their participation highlighted the university’s strong support for Chinese Studies and student success.
CCS Director Ming-Bao Yue delivered the opening remarks, setting the tone for the recognition and celebration. The CCS Scholarship Committee Co-Chair, Professor Jing Guo together with CCS faculty Professor Baoyan Cheng, officially announced the scholarship recipients, recognizing their outstanding achievements in Chinese Studies.

The celebration was further enlivened by a lion dance performance, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune for the coming year. The energetic display brought joy and excitement to attendees, reinforcing the spirit of renewal and success.
