Peking University (PKU) is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning. The University of Hawai’i has had an agreement with PKU for PKU–UHM Exchange Program since 1988. Each year, UHM CCS faculty or Ph.D. students go to PKU to teach, study, or conduct research. In return, UHM hosts PKU faculty members here in Hawai’i. The funding covers housing at PKU, a stipend for living expenses, access to the PKU library, and advising by PKU faculty. International airfare is not covered by the program.

Eligibility

• CCS Faculty (full members)
• CCS Ph.D students (currently registered)

Note: Applicants are responsible for identifying a PKU faculty who will conduct collaborative research (or act as advisor).

Program Length

One week to six months.

Required Documents

1. CCS Peking University Exchange Program Application Form;
2. Current curriculum vitae or a professional resume;
3. Proposed exchange plan;
4. Support letter from PKU faculty;
5. Recommendation letter by a CCS faculty member (must be advisor and for Ph.D. student applicants only).

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Decision

The CCS Scholarship Committee will review the applications after the deadline. Since the availability of rooms for UH visiting scholars is limited to one at a time at Peking University, the CCS Scholarship Committee will accommodate as many participants as possible, prioritizing first-time applicants to enhance the diversity of exchange between Peking University and UH.The decision letter will be sent out to all the applicants around mid-February each year. Note:Since many applicants apply for the summer time (from June to August), applications for the exchange other than summer time have a higher possibility of approval.

Awarded Recipients

If you receive the award, you will need to send CCS at ccsgrant@hawaii.edu a report about your exchange upon its completion. We hope to celebrate your achievement in the Exchange Program with the UH Foundation. If you are a CCS faculty member who receives the award, you are obligated to serve on the CCS scholarship committee for the following school year.
