At the end of the day, a Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration was held, where over 30 participants enjoyed chatting in Chinese over mooncakes while making arts and crafts. Students from different levels of Chinese classes came together to learn about Chinese tea culture. Our teacher, Hsin-Tzu Jen Laoshi, introduced us to the different teas and the flavors that each one contained. Students then tasted the different teas and were asked to try and identify which flavor went with which tea. Those who made the most correct matches won Starbucks gift cards! News Flagship Signs Around Campus Flagship Signs Around CampusOrion YoungAugust 21, 2023 For the start of the Fall 2023 semester, the Center’s graphic design team designed four new posters to be used as lawn signs to promote the Chinese Flagship on the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) campus. The UHM College of Education’s Marketing and Publication Services (MaPS) then printed the signs. With the help of the Department of the East Asian Languages and Literature’s main office, a request was submitted to the UHM Work Coordination Center (WCC) for permission to post the signs on campus. The Coordinator Orion Young, GA Hsin-Tzu Jen, and the Taiwan visiting instructor Meng-Ting Lin came and enjoyed the festivities. Hsin-Tzu and Meng-Ting were even able to try on the lion costumes! On November 21st, the Chinese Flagship center held their final Chinese corner of the Fall 2022 semester. The topic of the event was karaoke, presented by Lin Laoshi. Around 8 students attended the last Chinese corner and learned common words used when you go karaoking in China. In addition, they got to learn how to sing a well-known song called Love You ?? by Cyndi Wang. After Lin Laoshi’s presentation, the students got to try out the office karaoke machine. The purpose of the meeting was to kindle a campus-wide interest in Chinese language learning and to increase overall Chinese program enrollment.
