Nalani Fujimori Kaina was Board of Directors President of the Rural Community Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 that provides training, technical and financial resources, and advocacy to help rural communities achieve their goals and visions. Kaina serves presently as the executive director of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi, the oldest and largest statewide nonprofit organization providing free legal services to the poor. She is a commissioner on the Access to Justice Commission, a past president and current director of Hawaiʻi Women Lawyers, a member of the ACLU of Hawaiʻi’s Litigation Committee, and the chair of the Hawaiʻi State Advisory Committee to the US Civil Rights Commission. She earned her BA from Macalester College and JD from New York University.
