Pediatrician Nadine Burke-Harris was the first surgeon general of California. Trained at UC Davis, Harvard, and Stanford, Dr. Burke-Harris is an expert on screening for childhood trauma and developing clinical and community treatments for toxic stress. She is the author of the award-winning The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effects of Childhood Adversity, which Paul Tough calls “a heartbreaking, world-shaking, revolutionary book.”
