Kirk Caldwell was mayor of Honolulu from 2013 to 2021. Rail and other infrastructure projects were among the top concerns of his administration. As a public figure, his goals included increasing equity for Hawaiʻi citizens in education, economic opportunities, transportation, and housing. Caldwell earned a BA and MA from Tufts University and his JD from UH Mānoa. He served in the state legislature from 2002 to 2008, serving as the House Majority Leader during the final year.
