Jose Antonio Vargas is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and filmmaker whose work has appeared in the New Yorker, Washington Post, and Rolling Stone. In 2011, he came out as undocumented in a cover story for the New York Times Magazine and soon after founded Define American, a campaign that seeks to elevate the national conversation around immigration.

Mr. Vargas served as the Fall 2013 Commencement Speaker at UH Mānoa.
