David Vine

Anthropologist David Vine is the author of a trilogy of books about war and peace, including The United States of War: A Global History of America’s Endless Conflicts, from Columbus to the Islamic State, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in History. The other books are Island of Shame: The Secret History of the U.S. Military Base on Diego Garcia and Base Nation: How U.S. Military Bases Abroad Harm America and the World. Vine was a professor of anthropology at American University in Washington, DC, for 18 years (2006-2024).
