University of Cambridge Emeritus Professor and policy advisor Sir David King was born in South Africa and earned his BA and PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand. He served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government and Head of the Government Office for Science from 2000 to 2007. In 2008, he was appointed the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative for Climate Change.
