Title

VOICE OF THE SEA: Hazard and Hurricane Preparedness

Weʻre talking preparedness with the scientists who wrote the Hawaiʻi Handbook on how to prepare for Natural Hazards. We visit the Central Pacific Hurricane Center to learn about how meteorologists forecast weather and what they do during hurricanes and tropical storms. Then, we talk to the Department of Emergency Management about what you need to know to stay safe during disasters! We also learn how to strengthen your home to withstand storms and high winds. We take a look at some of the different protection options available—for both single and double wall homes.

The new, 4th edition of the Sea Grant Homeowners Handbook to help you prepare for Natural Hazards is now online—check it out—and then build a kit, make a plan, and stay informed!
