“Let’s Go To Okinawa”: Intro to Uchinaguchi
Responding to requests from Nisei Okinawans in Hawai‘i, three linguists are currently developing textbooks of Uchinaguchi.  By using these textbooks, students will learn not only basic expressions of Uchinaguchi, but also about Okinawan culture.  Professor Shigehisa Karimata will discuss this textbook project.  This talk will be in Japanese and be translated into English.

“Some Plans to Revitalize Ryukyuan Languages
With the exception of Japanese, languages spoken in Okinawa are in danger of extinction.  Yet the efforts of concerned Okinawans to revitalize these languages have not met with much success. Professor Masahide Ishihara will introduce his proposal to revitalize the heritage languages of the Ryukyus and will seek feedback on it.
