
Abstract
Roberta Whak Sil was born on September 18, 1931 to Keum Whan Chang and Eui Han Hong Chang. Keum Whan Chang arrived in Honolulu in July 1904 and Mrs. Chang, picture bride, arrived in August 1914.
Roberta Chang has a MA in Social Work and Public Health Administration from the University of Hawaii. She worked in Korea from 1960 to 1967 as a Catholic missionary.
Roberta Chang collected over 900 photographs of Koreans in America and interviewed over 100 Koreans. She published The Koreans in Hawaii, A Pictorial History 1903-2003 (University of Hawaii Press, 2003) and When the Korean World in Hawaii was Young 1903-1940 (with Seonju Lee (Book Korea, 2012).
