THE CENTER FOR KOREAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAIʻI AT MĀNOA PRESENTS:
Everything but the Bomb: South Korea's Nuclear Hedging Strategy
Date: Friday, January 31, 2025
Venue: Center for Korean Studies Auditorium
South Korea is pursuing "nuclear hedging" by seeking to develop nuclear fissile material capabilities under a revised U.S. treaty, citing energy security and waste management. While advanced conventional weapons may deter North Korea, uncertainty about their effectiveness leads Seoul to keep the nuclear option open.
