I hope this is the right place to post this question. As I was looking through our binder at the Density Bags lesson, I saw that there was one page (back and front) that provided great information about density, temperature, and salinity. I was wondering if we are supposed to have the students review this information before, during, or after the Density Bags activity? I didn't see any mention of it in the teacher guide. If it's up to the teacher, can I ask the TSI Instructors to recommend a good time to have the students review the info (before, during, or after activity)?
Thanks,
Lisa Yamagata

For my class I like to cover the concepts first using alternative examples. The idea is for the students to make the connections from lecture/group experience to lab. Then review it at the end.

I had my students make the concentrations, but I had we did it as a class activity. The only thing I supplied them with was the densities. They were able to figure it out, and I think it only took us about 5 minutes or so

We are doing this activity soon. I am looking forward to it :)

Hi Lisa. We did not review that page with you guys in the workshop because we assumed you all had at least some experience with density (we did use the pictures though, hopefully they looked familiar). We think reviewing (or introducing!) some density background information with your students is good though, which is why it's included prior to the activity. How much time you spend on review and how much detail you go into before the activity will depend on the age and prior knowledge of your students.
