I did this lesson with my students and they seemed to really enjoy it. I prepped the lab the day before, made the ice bath and set up the beakers with salt and fresh water. I let the student use a microwave to heat up the beakers for the hot and cold procedures. Everything in the lab went smoothly, some of the bags leaked but wasn't an issue. Overall, I think my students really enjoyed the activity and seem to have a better understanding of the effect of salinity and temperature on density.

Byran. Try bigger bags (although you'd need a bigger container too). The ratio of liquid to plastic plays are role in the bags "bouncyness". If you investigate other options - please let us know!

I did the same to prep the bags the day before, but found a 1/4th of the bags needed to be redone in the morning, No biggie and I did tape.
I agree the students were engaged in this lab. Would like to find a better way to neutralize the bouncy effects of the bag though.
