Phases of Inquiry Activity

One idea that just popped into my head, is to put a Phases of Inquiry paper in the middle of the table (one for each table group), and let the students monitor on their transition on their own. Let them challenge themselves and see who did the best recording and give them a few minutes to discuss why they felt they were in a particular mode where and why others felt differently.
I think the students may struggle with this at first, but after getting more familiar they will enjoy the student discussion and debate.

This is a good idea Justin. I would go over the descriptions and have them posted so they can refer to what the terms mean. I am thinking of doing this with the terms for "Modes". I'm doing this not just for the students but for me too! You're right in that they will get better at doing this as they become moe familiar with the terms and concept of moving through the phases and back and forth and in and out.

I like these ideas. I think this will help my students quite a bit. I'm thinking of following this with future lessons in some way so that they become comfortable with the modes and phases (and me too!). Practice makes perfect, right?

I'm going to try it with my students 5,6,7,8th, graders again this week too. I introduced it as we were doing a lab a few weeks ago so that we could think about what we were doing as it occurred- and now we will map it as we are actually doing it. I expect lots of lively discussion mixed in with a bit of confusion Thanks for the tips! Here goes...
