2 questions:
1) Did anyone do a variety of fish species, or did you keep it to only a few?
2) For those on Kauai, if you did more than just what can be found @Times, where did you get your fish?

I gave my students a two week "heads up" to bring in fish. Some students were very excited to be able to contribute and said they would bring in fish. I planned for a Monday so they would have the week-end to collect and I told them to have them on ice or frozen. We also discussed types of fish. I have mostly 11th graders. On Monday not one student brought in fish. I had a feeling this would happen, in fact kind of relieved. (Don't enjoy dealing with "fishy issues".) Fortnately I had the opportunity to "pool" (or should I say "school") the "rubber fish" from other teachers that TSI so generously gave us. Students enjoyed the activity. Many of them did not take home their fish prints. I wonder if they would have had more investment if it was their "own" fish.

Ok thanks. Too bad they didn't take home their prints.

I bought 3 different types of fish from Foodland: Akule, Aholehole, and another bait fish. Several of my students used the rubber fish and had better prints than those who used real fish. I don't have a sink or refrigerator so I didn't want to use big fish. I had the same experience as Andrea in that none of the students want to take home their prints. Next time I do this activity, I am going to have them print a T-shirt instead of a canvas.

We caught our fish on the North shore using nets and bamboo poles! We had a blast. Best of luck.
