Asia Pacific Dance Festival Workshop

2022 Asia Pacific Dance Festival Workshop

August 1-14, 2022
Honolulu, Hawai‘i
University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and the East-West Center campuses

The Asia Pacific Dance Festival Workshop is a unique two week experience that gives participants an opportunity to expand their awareness and understanding by learning about specific cultures in Hawaiʻi, Asia, and Pacific through an embodied approach directly from renown native practitioners. As Na Mokupuni o Hawaiʻi Nei (the Hawaiian Islands) is the home of the Kanaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiians), students will experience hula and Hawaiian culture as a way of life through its place-based context.

The 2022 Workshop will also feature native teachers from Cambodia and Palau. Since the Hawaiian Islands host Cambodian and Palauan diasporas, as part of the workshop participants will experience engagement with these local communities through community classes conducted by the visiting artists and field trips. The Workshop strives for holistic learning for participants that would encompass movement, music, history, language and cultural aspects that comes from and is situated in place and the lands in which these dance forms originate.
