(Module 3) Start Adulting: To Do Checklist

  1. Create your MyUH Account

    Visit www.hawaii.edu/username to set up your student account and myuh.hawaii.edu to access important information such as STAR GPS (registration and tracking academic progress), Laulima (learning and collaboration server used for most courses), or paying for tuition and fees. Check out the video in this series on important UHM online resources for help navigating MyUH, Laulima, and STAR GPS.

  2. Meet with an Academic Advisor

    As a reminder, it is recommended to meet with your academic advisor at least once every semester, prior to registration. You may locate your academic advisor here. More information regarding academic advising is located in the module on that topic.

    Placement Exams

    Placement exams are required for enrollment in certain courses, including math, chemistry, physics, and second languages. Information on placement exams is located here. Please consult your academic advisor if you are not sure which placement exams you need.

  3. Register for Courses

    For assistance with registration, check out the Summer Advising initiative or the STAR GPS registration guide. Summer Advising includes a series of online modules that are specifically designed to help you register for your first semester of classes. These modules include information on placement exams and step-by-step instructions on how to select and register for courses. Click here for information on registration dates. Incoming freshmen who will be on-island over the summer are welcome to supplement the online modules with an on-campus workshop. More information on the online modules and on-campus workshops can be found at the Summer Advising website. Please email summer.advising@hawaii.edu for any questions about Summer Advising or see STAR Help for any questions with STAR GPS registration.

  4. Secure Housing

    Information for on-campus housing is located here, including applying. Check out more information on the residence halls, including an exclusive look of what it is like inside, in the Housing video in this series.

  5. Apply or Check for Financial Aid

    More information on Financial Aid Services is located here and you can find further details about financial aid in the Finances video in this series.

  6. Pay for College

    As a reminder, you may view your charges and pay tuition/fees in MyUH portal (search “View My Charges/Make a Payment”). Different methods of payment are accepted. Payment plans are available and more information, including how to enroll, is located here.

    Payment deadline for Fall 2019

    • For students WITHOUT a financial aid offer from Mānoa, your payment deadline is August 15, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (HST)
    • Financial aid students, and those who registered after Aug 15, your payment deadline is September 3, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (HST)
  7. Submit health clearance

    Information on health clearance, including what is needed and how to submit, is located on the University Health Services website.

  8. Get your Mānoa One Card (Student ID Card)

    Attend one of the in-person orientations for exclusive mobile access to your Mānoa One Card! Mobile access is quick, easy, and you get to upload your own photo of choice. It is only available to students who attend the in-person orientation though, so register for a session today. Students not attending in-person orientation may apply and pick up their Mānoa One Card at the Ticket, Information and ID Office in Campus Center 212.

  9. Get your Books

    Prep for classes by getting your textbooks at the UHM bookstore. Check out ordering information here.

  10. Learn About Involvement Opportunities

    Your campus offers so many ways to get involved! Check out Registered Independent Organizations (RIOs), Chartered Student Organizations (CSO), on-campus employment or the Mānoa Happenings Calendar to get started. You can also find out more in the Getting Involved & Making Connections video in this series.

  11. Participate in Welina Mānoa

    Join us at Welina Mānoa! Welina Mānoa consists of New Rainbow Warrior Orientation (in-person orientation) and And the Adventure Begins (a campus-wide first day of school kick-off event; only available in Fall semesters). There will be entertainment, good food, giveaways, and valuable opportunities to engage with your campus community.

  12. Bonus Item- Familiarize Yourself with Laulima

    Laulima is a learning and collaboration server used by most courses at UHM. Here you will be able to access course syllabi, course material, and communicate with your instructors. You will only get access to courses in Laulima that you are registered for. See a helpful Laulima orientation or Laulima support, if needed.
