In Hawaii, there is a need to introduce new ornamentals, particularly new forms of native Hawaiian plants for landscaping, interiorscaping and floriculture. While native Hawaiian plants are currently being utilized for landscaping, little to no research has been conducted to evaluate its use as indoor plants or cutfoliage plants. To increase availability and variety of native Hawaiian plants suitable for use in landscaping, interiorscaping or flower arrangements, research must be done to generate information on its propagation, growing environments and care/maintenance. This project provides opportunities for students to develop research on propagation, maintenance as well as indoor or outdoor plant evaluation.
