The First Year Program's mission is to provide the opportunity for incoming freshmen to transition from high school and seamlessly integrate to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The program accomplishes this by offering freshmen the choice to sign up for an ACE Learning Community. ACE Learning Communities are designated by different major pathways (i.e. Pre-Business, Health Science, Pre-Engineering, etc.) and are comprised of a combination of different general education courses (degree or major requirements) along with a 1 credit integrating seminar called CAS 110.
The ACE Learning Communities provide freshmen the ease of signing up for courses related to their major or degree, a networking opportunity through students in the specific ACE Learning Community taking the same classes, and an ACE Peer Mentor that instructs the CAS 110 seminar to teach college-preparatory topics and provide necessary resources. Signing up for an ACE Learning Community can not only give freshmen the tools and skills to succeed at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa but also an invaluable experience with lasting memories. For more information, please visit their website or contact them via phone: (808) 956-8626 or via email: freshman@hawaii.edu.
