Pre-Med Orientation

Planning on becoming a physician? Attend this workshop and learn about the eight steps you need to take to be a competitive applicant for medical school. You will create your own timeline and learn about resources and engagement opportunities that will help you achieve this goal. You will also be provided an opportunity to speak with current medical students.

Basic Life Support

Current UHM students can get certified for free thanks to funding from UHM's Student Activity & Program Fee Board.

GRE Strategy Session

PAC will provide a general overview of the GRE and its role in professional school admissions. A panel of applicants who recently took the GRE will share their tips and tricks for successfully taking the GRE.

How will you score? Find out by taking a full-length practice test under realistic testing conditions provided by Princeton Review. Try your hand at the types of questions you’ll see on the real test and get a personalized score report highlighting your strengths and areas of improvement.

Pre-Health Summer Opportunities Panel

The summer is a great time to gain shadowing, volunteering, community service, and research, experience and learn more about your chosen health field and about yourself! A panel of students who recently engaged in various pre-health summer opportunities will share their experiences, advice and lessons learned. There will be time to speak with the panelists individually as well.

'Imi Ho'ola Program

Pursuing medicine? Planning to apply for medical school this summer? Attend this workshop and learn about the UHM John A. Burns School of Medicine’s Imi Hoʻola Post Baccalaureate Program. Acceptance into and completion of this program guarantees you a spot at JABSOM. Qualified students are strongly encouraged to apply.

In this session, a representative will walk students through how to craft their best-possible personal statement and provide tips on how to ask for letters of recommendation.

The Gap Year

Thinking about taking a gap year before applying to health graduate or professional school? Attend this session to listen to pre-health students who are taking a gap year and those who are currently in their gap year on how they decided to take a gap year, what they are doing or planning on doing during their gap year, advice, and lessons learned. There will be time during the session to speak with the panelists individually.

WICHE

Tuesday, February 22, 4-5PM on Zoom

The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is a regional organization created by the Western Regional Education Compact to facilitate resource sharing among the higher education systems of the West. It implements a number of activities and initiatives across 15 Western states and U.S. Pacific Territories and Freely Associated States (which currently include the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam). Attend to learn more about the program and what it has to offer!
