Biographical Narrative
Robin Arndt is a tenured faculty member in the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where he coordinates graduate field education. For more than fifteen years, Dr. Arndt has built a distinguished career in higher education, workforce development, and community-based services, with a professional trajectory marked by progressive leadership, innovation in program design, and a deep commitment to advancing the social work profession. He earned his Doctor of Social Work from the University of Alabama, specializing in Organizational Leadership, a Master of Social Work with a Mental Health specialization from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the same institution. Dr. Arndt is a Commissioner on the Commission on Educational Policy with the Council on Social Work Education, a Site Visitor for the Board of Accreditation, and a member of the Fellowship Review Committee. He is Chair of the Hawaiʻi Interprofessional Education Committee at the University of Hawaiʻi and Director of Interprofessional Education for the Hawaii Interprofessional Program for Parity—Behavioral Health. He previously served two terms on the National Association of Social Workers’ Board of Directors, first as Director from Region XII and then as Secretary. He continues to serve as Chair of the Chapter and Member Relations Committee and on the Audit Committee.
Grounded in the values of social justice, equity, and professional integrity, Dr. Arndt approaches his work with a belief in the transformative power of education to shape not only competent practitioners but also leaders who will influence policy, practice, and systems of care. His career reflects a rare integration of academic scholarship, administrative leadership, and direct practice experience—positioning him as a respected voice in advancing the future of social work education and practice in Hawai‘i and beyond.
