MSC February 2019 Meeting

The UH Manoa Sustainability Council held its February meeting from 3-4pm on Wednesday, February 20, in HIG 210.  A summary of the discussion follows:

* Marcie Moribe provided an overview of recent sustainability initiatives at Manoa Food Services. They received a 94% satisfaction rating for Fall 2018 from customers and an A+ rating from PETA2 (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) for their vegan initiatives. They have removed straw dispensers and have created a $1 coffee program for the #UHUglyMug program. And if all that wasn’t enough, they are currently offering a PAID internship position to a student to work on Sustainability.  Wow! Please contact Marcie (Marcie.Moribe@sodexo.com) for more information.

* We had a very productive discussion about the 2019 Earth Day plans.  The event is currently scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 from 10am-2pm.  There are plans underway for music, art, raffles, talks, and much more.  If you are an outside organization and would like to participate in the event, please use this form to indicate your interest:

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Tabbi Knudsen (tknudson@hawaii.edu).  Help needed! Fun guaranteed!

* There is a documentary under development about UH’s role in sustainability.  The film makers are particularly interested in projects that use permeable surfaces, but open to any topic.  Contact Cindy Knapman (lknapman@hawaii.edu) if you would be interested in participating in this project.

Thanks to Manoa Dining Services for providing delicious vegan pastry mini pie things. One was coconut, one was sweet potato, both were super ono.
