Lonnie G. Bunch III is the director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. As the museum’s founding director, Bunch supervised fundraising and construction of the museum and continues to develop its exhibitions and public programs. Before his Smithsonian appointment, Bunch served as president of the Chicago Historical Society. A prolific author, Bunch has written on topics ranging from black military experience to all-black towns in the American West to diversity in museum management.
