Students wishing to conduct research may apply for any of the four endowments or CPS Scholarships, explained in the sub-menu above. They are also shown in this Link. Applicants from other institutions or countries are not eligible.
Only UH student applicants on good standing can apply for one grant at a time and is limited by the maximum amount stipulated in each grant.
Also, please note that CPS does not fund or reimburse projects that are already done, for example seminars attended prior to the application. Although there are deadlines, all application materials must be submitted at least 30 days before the scheduled event, or departure in case of planned travel for fieldwork.
General Guidelines:
- Formal cover letter explaining the grant the applicant is seeking (ex., research proposal, conference travel, or publication support), with a strong justification for the proposed project.
- For conference travel grants only: (a) A letter explaining the significance of the conference and why the applicant’s attendance is important, (b) One to two academic reference letters, and (c) Abstract and acceptance to the conference. Then continue with Steps 3, 4, and 5.
- Writing sample (10-15 pages).
- Detailed Timeline and budget of conference or research project. The budget must be justified.
- At the end of the grant year, grant recipients must submit a terminal report about how they used the award and share their research findings in a lecture or talk for the CPS Colloquium Series.
Incomplete application materials will not be considered. Applicants are advised to contact Dr. Patricia Halagao or Dr. J. Lorenzo Perillo, CPS Co-Directors at cpsdir@hawaii.edu, before submitting their application.
Deadline: April 1 (or first Monday after Spring Break).
