Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawai‘i
The Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii (PCCCH) is a community-based organization that acts as a liaison between the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu and the Filipino community to plan and coordinate major events. The committee partners with the consulate to organize events throughout the year, including celebrations for Philippine Independence Day, cultural festivals, and holiday-themed activities.
UHM Center for Philippine Studies
The Center for Philippine Studies (CPS) plays an important role in promoting interest in the Philippines and Filipinos in the diaspora as an academic field of study. It was originally established as a program in 1975 by an Act of the Hawai‘i State Legislature to recognize the contributions of Filipinos to the history of Hawai‘i, and to highlight the academic expertise on the Philippines at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The mission of the Center for Philippine Studies is to promote the study of the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora through teaching, research, community outreach, and academic partnerships. It aims to support Filipino students, recognize Filipino contributions to Hawaii and the U.S., and strengthen the University of Hawai‘i’s global reputation in Philippine studies.
UHM College of Education Tinalak Filipino Education Council
Established in 2012, the Tinalak Filipino Education Advisory Council is named after the hand-woven natural cloth designed from the dreams of the indigenous T´boli people of the Philippines. Symbolizing “dream weavers”, the charge of Tinalak is to envision, inspire, and weave together Hawaii’s new generation of educators through the recruitment and support of Filipinos in the education field.
Filipino Curriculum Project
The Filipino Curriculum Project (FCP) is a student-driven initiative dedicated to developing and implementing curriculum that reflects Filipino history, culture, and identity in Hawaiʻi’s schools. Rooted in student activism, FCP seeks to empower the Filipino community by advancing meaningful representation within the education system. Since 2021, Filipino students and educators have collaborated to design and advocate for a groundbreaking social studies course, “Filipino History Culture” (CHR 2300). Approved by the Hawaiʻi Department of Education in 2023, this course marks a historic milestone in integrating Filipino perspectives into Hawaiʻi’s public school curriculum.
